Cage in Heaven Essay -- Personal Narrative Descriptive Essays

Cage in Heaven Process writing: This was me when I was growing up in my little world. This was my feeling of pain, sorrow, and joy during my childhood. I felt all these emotions and more growing up in the busy Hong Kong City. Looking back at my childhood, I realized why I came to the United States. I adore my father and siblings for all the hard work they have done for me to come over. I realized the warmest and only love is that of a family. Hong Kong is six million hearts beating in rhythm. This pellet of land bustles with boiling commotion. Sirens scream like tea kettles. It is modern and prosperous, just like a little New York City of the Orient. The majority of people in Hong Kong hanker to live in loft houses of 3,000 square feet facing the fascinating skyline and immense harbor. Dreams of dreamhouses push the people deeper and deeper into their hard work, including my father. But beneath the city’s captivating surface, the noise of automobiles and prosperity overpowers thousands of sorrowful stories. Since poor people cannot afford the high rent prices, they have to jostle in bed-size apartments and partitioned rooms in the cocklofts of aged buildings. As I lived in Hong Kong, I should have been satisfied to have a 500 square foot big home. But, after my father left home, I found neither the eye-catching harbor view nor a vast house to be heavenly. Instead, a bed-size apartment on top of a dilapidate d building was my firmament. I gazed at my father, sister and brother from the corner. My eyes followed their weighty pace until their laden shadows disappeared at the end of the indistinct hallway. I was still very small at that time. I could not even reach the doorknob, so how could I under... ... my father. I didn’t long for life in a big house anymore. The world under the aged building was blossomy for those materialistic people who chased modernization. That world didn’t belong to me. Another world was waiting for me. That world was the cage in heaven where I could have family warmth. Steven made a reckless move for his family. For the same reason, my father went to New York to make a better living for his family. There was no abhorrence in my heart anymore. I felt so sorry for my father, and had to apologize because I had misunderstood him for the past 15 years. I stood near the cage in heaven again, appreciating the melody made by the factories, and I forgot the hullabaloo of the city below. I took out my cell phone and called. When I heard the voice that I wished was more familiar, I shouted out, â€Å"Papa, meet you in New York City soon!†

China: Threat or Friend? Essay -- Economics

China: Threat or Friend? If you input â€Å"China’s GDP† by using a Google search, the first result jumps into your eyes should be a chart presented by World Bank, which indicates how dramatically the economy has grown in China from 0.10 trillion dollars in the year 1960 to 5.93 trillion in 2010. As Professor Stephen S. Roach wrote in his article ‘10 reasons why China is different’, China’s economy has made a break-through indeed due to its tremendous changes and unremitting efforts among: â€Å"strategy, commitment, wherewithal to deliver, saving, rural-urban migration, consumption, services, foreign direct investment, education and innovation. †Ã¯ ¼Ë†Stephen S. love :: essays research papers

Love is a word with many definitions. Although, Webster defines love as a strong feeling of attraction resulting from sexual desire; enthusiasm or fondness. But to me love is not just a feeling, but it is the way that you treat the ones you care for. You should treat the ones you love so considerately through your actions they'll know you care and love them. Love in my eyes, is making that sacrifice for someone, knowing that you might regret it sooner or later. Love is how you make another person feel when you are in their presence. Many people show or express their love for someone in many and different ways. To me love is in the actions not the words. The true meaning of love like what is the meaning of life is one of the questions that will remain unsolved forever. But right now the love is a great thing that should be treasured forever and valued as a important part in your life because it will effect all relationships, romantic or not. Love has not changed at all over the cours e of history and this makes it the most important emotion anyone could have. Most people take love for granted and worry about it always being there when they need it the most.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Family love is another type of love we can think about. It is the love we use between our intermediate family and our extended family members. Family love is said to be blind, only to show that love can be shown to anyone no matter condition or problems one can have. Of course we all know about the good times, hard times, and times we have as a family, but no matter what the situations are within the family, love is usaully a important part.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   A close bond between two people can begin with a friendship. Whether it is a friendship between two guys, two girls, or one male and one female, these friendships will develop into love. It is not romantic love , but this type of love still connects people. Friends may fight or move to other areas, but friends will always have that connection they once shared. Romantic love is not always there at the beginning, but grows within us. When we finally find the love we have been looking for, I beleive you can not imagine life with anybody else.

Greek Mythology and Medea Essay

Medea – Protagonist of the play, Medea’s homeland is Colchis, an island in the Black Sea, which the Greeks considered the edge of the earth–a territory of barbarians. A sorceress and a princess, she used her powers and influence to help Jason secure the Golden Fleece; then, having fallen in love with him, she fled her country and family to live with Jason in Iolcus, his own home. During the escape across the Mediterranean, she killed her brother and dumped him overboard, so that her pursuers would have to slow down and bury him. While in Iolcus, she again used her devilish cleverness to manipulate the daughters of the local king and rival, Pelias, into murdering their own father. Exiled as murderers, Jason and Medea settled in Corinth, the setting of Euripides’ play, where they established a family of two children and gained a favorable reputation. All this precedes the action of the play, which opens with Jason having divorced Medea and taken up with a new family. The play charts Medea’s emotional transformation, a progression from suicidal despair to sadistic fury. She eventually avenges Jason’s betrayal with a series of murders, concluding with the deaths of her own children. Famously, the pleasure of watching Jason suffer their loss outweighed her own remorse at killing them. Jason – Jason can be considered the play’s villain, though his evil stems more from weakness than strength. A former adventurer, he abandons his wife, Medea, in order to marry Glauce, the beautiful young daughter of Creon, King of Corinth. Hoping to advance his station through this second marriage, he only fuels Medea to a revenge that includes the deaths of his new bride, her father, and his children. Jason’s tactless self-interest and whiny rationalizations of his own actions make him a weak, unsympathetic character. Children – The offspring of Jason and Medea, the children are presented as naive and oblivious to the intrigue that surrounds them. Medea uses them as pawns in the murder of Glauce and Creon, and then kills them in the play’s culminating horror. Their innocent deaths provide the greatest element of pathos–the tragic emotion of pity–in the play. Chorus – Composed of the women of Corinth, the chorus chiefly serves as a commentator to the action, although it occasionally engages directly in the dialogue. The chorus members fully sympathize with Medea’s plight, excepting her eventual decision to murder her own children. Creon – The King of Corinth, Creon banishes Medea from the city. Although a minor character, Creon’s suicidal embrace of his dying daughter provides one of the play’s most dramatic moments, and his sentence against Medea lends an urgency to her plans for revenge. Glauce – Daughter of Creon, Glauce is the young, beautiful princess for whom Jason abandons Medea. Her acceptance of the poisoned coronet and dress as â€Å"gifts† leads to the first murder of the play. Although she never utters a word, Glauce’s presence is constantly felt as an object of Medea’s jealousy. (Glauce is also referred to as Creusa. ) Aegeus – The King of Athens, Aegeus passes through Corinth after having visited the Oracle at Delphi, where he sought a cure for his sterility. Medea offers him some fertility-inducing drugs in exchange for sanctuary in Athens. His appearance marks a turning point in the play, for Medea moves from being a passive victim to an aggressor after she secures his promise of sanctuary. Messenger – The messenger appears only once in the play–he relates in gruesome, vivid detail the death scenes of Glauce and Creon, which occur offstage. Nurse – Caretaker of the house, the nurse of the children serves as Medea’s confidant. Her presence is mainly felt in the play’s opening lament and in a few speeches addressing diverse subjects not entirely related to the action of the play. Tutor – A very minor character, the tutor of the children mainly acts as a messenger, as well as the person responsible for shuffling the children around from place to place

Healer and Healing: a Study on Khasi Health Care System Essay

This is particularly in our societies where one medical system along cannot adequately meet the health needs of the entire population. In the present time most of the people live in a medically plural society. So their health seeking behavior is an important side of human being. Through gathering information, to find out the indigenous medical knowledge of Khasis and to investigate the available health care options, understanding their perception about alternatives in health care system, explore the health seeking behavior of Khasi people. Health and care, belief and practices differ according different cultures. Cultural belief and practices strongly influence people’s health. Health problem often viewed as cultural phenomena. The term ‘healing’ means a variety of complex and overlapping treatment systems. Various medical anthropologists created typologies that recognize the phenomenon of medical pluralism in complex societies. Based upon their geographic and cultural settings Kleinman suggested that, in looking at any complex society, one can identify there over lapping and inter connected sectors of health care, the â€Å"popular† sector the â€Å"folk† sector and the â€Å"professional† sector (Helman, 2000). In our country Khasi is an excluded community. They are also well known ethnic community in this geographic area. They have a different cultural believes and practices. They are different in their life style with the Bengali. They have a indigenous medical knowledge. The healer of their community is known as ‘Bonagi’. The physician practices their knowledge insider of their community. But now a day’s people of the Khasi community also take service of allopathic, Homeopathic and Ayurvedic etc of various health problems. Statement of the problem: In both developed and developing countries, the standard of health services public expected was not being provided. The service does not cover the whole population. The health service favored only the privileged few and urban dwellers. The ethnic communities have been detached from the mainstream of the health and health care sectors including the public health care also. In Bangladesh there are 31 ethnic communities are existing and khasis are one of them is totally beyond the researchers and the policy makers. The ethnic community is living in Sylhet division since several centuries, but Anthropological study yet has not been conducted the health and health care. The impacts of climate change and global warming, various peculiar and unknown complex diseases are arisen. So it is very important to know how khasi people treat their different diseases. Objectives of the study: The broad objectives of my study will be to investigate the available health care option of Khasi people and it means to find out the indigenous medical knowledge of Khasis. Specific objectives: The specific objectives of my research to know: a) Explore the health seeking behavior of the local people. b) Understanding their perceptions about alternatives in health care system c) Understand their perception about new epidemic diseases which is revealed in this century. Review of Literature: For better understanding of the conceptual issues of the research, review of literature is needed. Few health related books have reviewed for this research after which described in below: Anita hardon (1992) has written ‘Applied health research manual: Anthropology of health and health care’. The Authors first assumption is that human body is more than just a physical organism but have a cultural mind which influence people’s health. As the formulation of them, disease is the definition of a health problem by a medical expert, illness refers to the experience of the problem by patient and sickness is the social role attached to a health problem by the society at large. The general framework of Anthropological approach: Structural Functionalism could view illness is a dysfunction of the body and health care contributes to the maintenance of society as a whole by repairing the sick individual . In the ecological model health is regarded as the result of successful adaptation to environment and disease the outcome of the failure to adopt. The Marxist political economy model viewed health and quality of health care are largely determined by social competition between groups of people (classes) and the unequal distribution of scarce resources. A symbolic point of view the described approach should be seen as complementary but critical Anthropology which has integrated the politico-economic and symbolic views and tries to connect macro and micro level insights in social processes. Illness is presented as the embodiment of Society’s most basic problems and conflicts. The popular sector comprises the lay, non-professional domain where illness is first recognized and treated. Self-care is an example . The folk sector consists of local healers such as herbalists, bone-setters, spiritual healers’ diviners and traditional birth attendants. The professional sector is the domain of medical specialists who enjoy a privileged position in the sense that they are legally protected and control memberships, knowledge and quality of medical practice by means of formally recognized professionalization. Authors further draw out other classification of health system, public/formal medicine is offered by the state and is either inexpensive or free, Private/informal medicine tends to be the domain of non-government organization or private entrepreneurs. A health system is an integral part of the wider culture and society in which it is found, they explicitly argued for the mutual understanding of traditional and modern medicine and respect for each other. Thomas M. Johnson and Carolynt Sargent (1990) has written, Medical Anthropology: A hand book of theory and method Thomas J.  Csordas and Arther Kleinman tend to emphasize the symbolic and non symbolic aspects of healing. The idea of therapeutic process is analogous to the idea of ritual process and categorization of it, the first formulation the treatmental event has been described as the process which is understand as the sequence of actions, Phases or stages undergone by the participants, on the other hand, process within therapeutic events is constituted by elements of verbal interaction and interpersonal relationship between therapist and client. The second conceptualization of experiential process with a focus the sequence of mental states, the emergence of insight, interpretation of religious experience, and endogenous symbolic or Somatic process, Third sense-that of progression or course of an illness episode, defined by a sequence of decision leading to diagnosis and treatment. The final sense-social and ideological control exercised through healing practice that may consider political that is the sense in which therapy and healing articulate with broader social issues and concerns. Francis x. Grolling S. J and Harold B . Hale (1976) has written â€Å"Medical Anthropology† The first formulation assumed that most cultures have kind of expertise or specialists who treats illness and disease might be identified as Shaman or witch doctor, And the society’s basic attitude is that if he can cure disease then he can causes disease, Again if the Shaman has the power to retrieve the spirit, it is quite reasonable to consider that he would also have the power to destroy a person by talking the spirit away. From views of African native doctor, disease is an external force which enters a human body in a specific way and interferes with the normal bodily functions, which can be classified into two classes: role of spirits of dead ancestors, sickness in human body has an organic basis. In North African Yanoama group perform using Shamanism and protection from evil spirits etc and other Shamanistic by shaman with help of their subjected assistant spirit, hekula. The feature of Shamanism is the chanting by which Shaman calls hekula to his aid; Snuffing is used during this period. In Peru, Coca is locally used medical practice for using various diseases. But with European intervention; it became used widely as a medical element to create various medicines. Within institutionalized framework. Turner, in discussing Ndembu medicine sees the dual aspects i. e. natural and social aspects of medicine. Certain Ndembu medicine cures are private and involve only herbalists while other disease involve mystical causes and therapy becomes a matter of selling up the branches in social relationships simultaneously with ridding the patient of his pathological symptoms. The social of nature of the cure is reflected in the fact that the patient is integrated isolated at several levels of the social structure during the cure. Theoretical Frame Work: In the research medical ecological theory has applied, which is coined by McElory and Townsed (1985:4). Herden, A et. All (1903:17-18) states also that human adaptation to environment. Cultural phenomena are seen first and foremost as human solutions to problems posed by natural environment. By viewing culture as a continuing adaptation to both nature and culture, McElory and Townsed seen that medical ecology considers health to be a measure of how well population adapt to its environment. Social, biological and environment factors interact and influence health. Fabreg states that medical ecology is holistic, that is it deals with the entire system of factors that affect health (cited in McElory and Townsed: P. 6). A key idea of medical ecological approach in that health is a measure of environmental adaptation and health can be studied through ecological model. Among the Khasis, this model has been applied to analyze the health and health care. McElory and Townsed states (1 bid: 14) the environment can be broken down into three part the physical on abiotic environment the biotic environment and the cultural environment no doubt these parts of models are inter linked as well as inter related. Ecological approach indicated the diseases as a result of several causes in the studied community. And it has shown that health and diseases are part of a physical, biological and cultural subsystem that continuously affects one another. Conceptual issues:  Three sectors model: In the research Kleinman model has applied, He states that, in looking at any complex society one can identity three overlapping and inter-connected sector of healthcare: the popular sector, the folk sector and the professional sector. The popular sector: This is the lay, NON-Professional, NON-Specialist domain of society, where ill-health is first recognized and defined and health care activities are limited. It includes all the therapeutic option that people utilize without any payment and without consulting either folk healer or medical practitioners. Among these options are: self treatment or self medication advice or treatment given by a relative friend neighbor or workmate, healing and mutual care activities in a church, cult or self-help group or consultation with another lay person who has special experience of a particular disorder. In this sector the main area of health care is the family. Most ill health is recognized and then treated. It has been estimated that about 70-90 present. The popular sector usually includes a et of beliefs about health is also maintained by the use of charms, amulets and religious medallion to including unexpected illness and to attract good luck and goods health. Most health care in this sector place between people already linked to one another by ties of kinship, friendship neighborhood or membership of work or religious organization. The folk sector: In this sector which is especially large in non western societies, certain individuals specialize in forms of healing which are either sacred of secular or a mixture of the two. These healers are not part of the official medical system and occupy an intermediate position between the popular and professional sectors. There is a wide variation in the types of folk healer found in any society from purely secular and technical experts like bone setters, midwifes, tooth extractors of herbalists, to spiritual leathers from a he erogenous group with much individual variation in style and outlook but sometimes they are organized into associations of healers, with rules of entry, codes of conduct and the sharing of information.. The professional sector: This comprises the organized, legally sanctioned healing professions, such as modern western scientific, medicine, also known as allopathic or biomedicine. It includes not only physicians of various types and specialties but also the recognized Para- medical professions. In most countries, scientific medicine is the basis of the professional sector. It is important to realize that western scientific medicine provides only a small proportion of health care in most countries of the world. In most countries especially in the western world the practitioners of scientific medicine from the only group of healers whose positions are upheld by law.

Autistic Disturbances of Affective Contact

Leo Kanner was the first who discovered Autism as a distinct case in the 1940s and brought out a report narrating the disorder which he stated as â€Å"Autistic disturbances of affective contact'. (Keane, 2004) Presently Autism falls third among the list of childhood disorders, after mental handicap and language difficulties. (Zager, 2005) Autism is an intricate disorder of mental development which is defined in terms of behavior. Autism spectrum disorder – ASD is a broad expression which covers a diverse mix of children having such manifestations and numerous biological etiologies. Hollander, 2003) Diagnosis of ASD can be unfailingly done when the child attains the age of 3, and in certain instances much previously by the age of 18 months. Researchers recommend that several children ultimately may be conclusively detected while attaining 1 year or much less than that. (Autism Spectrum Disorders (Pervasive Developmental Disorders)) Collectively, children detected as having ASD can be distinguished by dearth of proficiency in vocal and non-vocal communications at an early age, socio-communicative function, and monotonous behaviors. Hollander, 2003) It is the parents who are the first witnesses of these queer behaviors in their children. In certain instances, differences could be discovered congenitally, as being indifferent to humans or concentrating on a particular thing attentively for extended periods of time. The initial signals of an ASD can also be seen in children who appear to have a normal development. If a charming, blathering child, at once turns mum, reserved, self-abusive, or aloof to social advances, matters are not right. The manifestation of any of the cautioning signals of ASD constitutes sufficient worry to get the child examined by a professional expert in dealing with the disorder. (Autism Spectrum Disorders (Pervasive Developmental Disorders)) The National Institute of Mental Health – NIML holds that the accurate incidence of Autism is not known. Estimations range from 1 among 500 to 1 among 1,000 in this nation, and the number of autism affected persons is spiraling. Even though there are differences on the issue of the rise in the number of children seen as possessing the indications of autism is because of the rise of the disorder itself, improved investigative tests, greater inclusive classification procedures, wrong diagnosis, or some mishmash of these, there is no disagreement on the reality that considerable number of people are affected by Autism in this nation. (Steuernagel, 2005) As of now, cure of Autism is nowhere in sight. Treatment or interventions are formulated to cure particular symptoms in every individual. The treatment procedures that are best studied comprise educational, behavioral and biomedical interventions. Even though these interventions do not have any cure for autism, they sometimes cause considerable enhancement. A lot of approaches stress on extremely planned and frequently intensive skill oriented training which is customized to the child on a case to case basis. (Autism Interventions) Given the right intervention, a child will be able to surmount a broad variety of developmental difficulties. Rigorous, properly devised, and interventions administered in time hold promise for bettering the prospects and the value of life, in the case of a lot of children who are believed to be in danger for cognitive, social, or emotional damage. (Zager, 2005) In certain instances, useful intervention is able to better the plight earlier believed to be almost beyond treatment, like autism. Properly administered programs have possibilities to cheer up the future of a child and the outcome a development disorder puts on the family. The outcome of this can bring a child more liberty, help that child to be taken into the community, and present an increasingly fruitful and satisfying life. Regrettably, a lot of pediatric doctors are unable to detect a developmental disorder, like autism at an age when it is high time to get quicker intervention services. From birth till 3 years happen to be a crucial period in the development of a child, hence if detected late has increased chances to put the odds for success in jeopardy. (Zager, 2005) Interventions for autism has progressed much since the disorder was stated by Kanner in the 1940s. Then Autism was believed to be intimately associated with schizophrenia and insufficient parenting was seen as the main factor responsible for the disorder. Psychoanalysis was frequently chosen as the treatment mode, however large-scale consumption of drugs were found and also electroconvulsive treatments were prescribed for application in schizophrenia cases. (Bovk; Goode, 2003) A lot of medications have been administered to alleviate autistic indications and activities having autism. However, presently no pharmacological treatments with proven suggestions are available for autism. Nevertheless, psychotropic drugs have been applied in autistic persons to cure main symptoms, behavioral dyscontrol, cure of simultaneous psychiatric ailments, and management of related clinical states like seizures. Drugs treating depression, especially serotonin -reuptake inhibitors – SRIs, and anticonvulsant drugs constitute the drugs generally applied for autism spectrum behaviors. (Hollander, 2003) The SRIs administered cover fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, venlafaxine, sertraine, and clomipramine. Several of these formulations have been researched in an open-label as also double-blind manner. The consequences of these researches on the whole point out that these drugs works while treating some of the indications of individuals having autism spectrum disorders. Anticonvulsants like valproic acid and carbamazepine are applied especially in people having comorbid seizure disorder, as also those suffering from impulsive violence and emotional imbalance. But, there has not been any placebo-controlled trials reported till today which assess the effectiveness of these drugs. Besides, the uncharacteristic antipsychotics have been found to be extremely effective adjunctive cure for autistics people, particularly at the time of treating acute indications like physical violence and self-injury. Medical treatment, nevertheless, is at times intricate by their susceptibility to result in putting on weight and several other undesirable causes. (Hollander, 2003) Biomedical intervention for treating autism cases comprise of a broad variety of therapeutic systems for the treatment and according to some suggest curing autism among children, adolescents and maybe adults. The source for this type of intervention is a carefully chosen food habit which permits for regular absorption of nutrients; however several associated treatment procedures are also widespread. Biomedical interventions normally begin with a limiting diet like the diet free from gluten and casein. (Biomedical intervention for autism) Normally, foods will be controlled in a specific order, for instance by not giving: Diary products-for both in lactoseare regarded to cause problems; Glutten consisting of grains like oats, barley, rye, spelt, wheat, and so on; Eggs, nuts as well as berries which frequently induce allergic effects among children; Fruits and vegetables that have salicylates, phenols and other stuffs which might trigger a reaction; Every food having artificial colors like the Feingold Diet, and all bi- and poly-saccharides, like lactose, fructose, starch and the like. Parents state mixed success with these diet, and mishmash of them. Several among them have witnessed total cure just by avoiding milk, while others are required to do away with salicylates or phenols to attain a tilting stage; others have seen a practicable, efficient food pattern in the particular Carbohydrate diet. Many however report that no advantages are derived from controlled diet. As the gastrointestinal system is considered to be damaged in autistic children, a lot of parents and medical professionals consider it useful to feed nutritional supplements to their children. (Biomedical intervention for autism) The variety of supplements provided to autistic children undertaking biomedical intervention is broad, however can be classified as: 1. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamins specifically B-complex, and others in RDA doses. 2. Minerals, especially Calcium, Zinc, Magnesium, and other trace minerals like Molybdenum and so on. 3. Essential Fatty acids available in supplements like Borage Oil, Fish Liver Oil and Flax seed oil. 4. Probiotics – disagreement exists regarding the advantages and the possible damages of some bacteria strains vs others, however majority have the same opinion that acidophilus is needed. 5 Anti-yeast supplements- mixed success has been stated by parents with antifungal medications, however are more excited regarding the natural cures found in Caprylic acid, Garlic, seed extract of grapes and products like Biocidin. It is observed that majority of the children appear to gain from a carefully chosen diet and judicious use of nutritional supplements, increased differences is found in other alleged â€Å"alternative† medical systems. The most usual of these are Craniosacral therapy/Osteopathy, Homoeopathy, applied kinesology and Chelation. (Biomedical intervention for autism) Results of intense research findings opine that autistic children need personalized, individual teaching to deal with the distinctness of their interaction, social behavioral and impairment related to learning. In situations where autistic children are given thorough early intervention which is particularly intended to fulfill the spectrum of their requirements, the pace of the growth of children can be improved and might result in enhanced lasting diagnosis. Suitable interventions meant for children having autism must be initiated as soon as possible to benefit from the â€Å"window of opportunity† which is present at the time when the brain of the child is in the growth stage and is flexible. Stephens, 2002) In case of children who are less than 3 years of age, suitable interventions normally happen at home or a child care centre. (Autism Spectrum Disorders (Pervasive Developmental Disorders)) The best researched intervention for this disorder at the moment is behavioral treatment. With the passage of time, autism has been acknowledged as an ailment of development, interventions have concentrated on improving development expertise and on means to alleviate behavioral problems. (Bov k; Goode, 2003) Autistic children have been observed to be receptive to a broad range of interventions intended at improving their social rendezvous with others, adults as well as peers. Fruitful policies applying peer-mediated approaches and mentoring by peers have engaged characteristically developing peers. Besides, a lot of researches have proven that social involvement has a direct bearing on other vital behaviors such as language, even when these behaviors are not particularly attended by the teaching program. Therefore, while a realm of intense participation, social behavior is also receptive to intervention. (Rogers, 2001) Acknowledgement of the contribution that language problems specifically is responsible for behavior problem, had given rise to a pointing on the teaching of increased efficient communication skills. (Bovk; Goode, 2003) According to the Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General: thirty years of research proved the effectiveness of applied behavioral procedures in lowering suitable behavior and in enhancing communication, learning, and proper social behavior. The fundamental research performed by Ivar Lovaas and his associates at the University of California, Los Angeles, demanding for a thorough individual child-teacher communications lasting for 40 hours every week, built the base for other educators and researchers in the quest for more efficient initial interventions to assist those having ASD reach their capabilities. The objective of behavioral management is to strengthen wanted behaviors and eliminate the unwanted behaviors. (Autism Spectrum Disorders (Pervasive Developmental Disorders)) Over 550 peer-referred data-based assessments have been released by the research professionals on behavioral treatment, and these assessments have demonstrated that the treatment gives a broad array of advantages. For instance, it assists a majority of the individuals with autism to interact with others, stay occupied in play and recreational pursuits with peers and caregivers, undertake self-care involvements like toileting and wearing dresses, achieve scholarly and vocational proficiencies, and handle unruly conducts like peevishness or characteristic behaviors. Taken from a behavioral standpoint, people with autism are laid with genetic injuries which lower their potential and determination to educate themselves in manners that normally developing children and adults do. Specifically, people with autism develop meager dexterity or keenness to enjoy playing in a creative manner, interacting, idolizing the activities of other people, discovering their environments, paying attention to the directives of their teachers, or engaging themselves in reading books on subjects that are new to them. (Hollander, 2003) Because of this, the most fundamental objective of behavioral treatment is giving learning circumstances which help people with autism to be a winner which will encourage them to keep on learning. Since a lot of interventions developed for persons having autism have found not to be so fruitful or even detrimental, behavioral practitioners consider that it is important to apply interventions whose advantages have been recorded in controlled researches and that are obtained from better principles from a scientific perspective regarding the manner on how to encourage learning. Besides, they regard that the impact of these interventions are required to be evaluated cautiously in case of every individual having autism who gets them. Behavioral evaluation and cure are normally executed by paraprofessionals who perform under the watchful guidance of professional behavior analysts. (Hollander, 2003) Broad based school, home and community requirements order a personalized and wide-ranging evaluation procedure so as to guarantee treatment planning. Fruitful and useful evaluation work need effort and involvement by professionals as well as family members. Improved evaluation procedures, inclusive of more increased application of filtering apparatus, broader accessibility of services, and increasingly informed service providers, individuals who really have idea regarding autism and assisting families with autism, everybody have a share in putting up an encouraging account. School programs are more and more encompassing while being receptive to autism, in that extending much needed services in less restraining settings. Inclusion practices, together with improved transition facilities, permit people having autism to attain at stages which have not been believed to happen until lately. Parents are inclined to be vehemently occupied in assisting their child and keen to learn the manner in which to impart competence and organize settings. (Zager, 2005) In order to appreciate the child's privileges in the public schools of America, it helps to begin with one of the basic regulations ruling the education of children with deficiencies: the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act — P. L. 101-476. IDEA has been enacted as a federal law which assures without any cost and suitable public education meant for each child having deficiencies. This implies that in case one admits his child in a public school, his/her education will be free and must be suitable for his/her age, potential and level of development. IDEA is an improved edition of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act — P. L. 94-142 enacted in 1975. During 1997, IDEA was again sanctioned authority — P. L. 105-17, went ahead in defining rights of children to educational services and stressing the contribution of parents in the educational planning methods for their children. (IDEA and your child's rights) To conclude, a distinct appreciation of intervention effects might presently be impeded by the absence of accuracy in the calibration of results. In order to enhance the accuracy and sensitivity of evaluation of results, it might be helpful to combine research on the type of social commotion of autism with study on intervention. An efficient treatment program will develop in the interests of the child, present an expected schedule, impart responsibilities as a sequence of easy steps, keenly involve the child's interest in extremely systemized activities, and give usual strengthening of behavior.

Eating Disorders Essay

Eating disorders are devastating and harmful behavioral patterns that occur within people for numerous reasons. The three types of eating disorders I will be discussing include the three most common of the disorders: anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive overeating (known as binge eating). Though the disorders take physical damage on the body, they are not in fact physical illnesses. You cannot â€Å"catch† and eating disorder. Rather, they are mental issues that develop more frequently within females but do affect the male population somewhat as well. Eating disorders are very common in our culture many people have them or know someone who does. With our cultures unrealistic views on what is beautiful the supper skinny models that woman see everywhere makes many people think that they have to live up to those standards. Some people feel if they cannot be up to these standards that they are not good enough and this causes them to do things that a person in their normal state of mi nd would never do. When people starve themselves to like in anorexia they end up developing many different psychological problems and find excuses to keep up with their destructive habits. There are also people who are addicted to eating they use eating as a way to feel a void that they feel like they have. They lean to use eating as a cooping tool in turn they become obese then they use eating to deal with their depression which works as a double edged sword. What they love is what is destroying them physically as well as mentally. This can also be considered emotional eating this is eating when you’re angry, sad, or even anxious. Many cultures have different views as what is considered attractive these variables play a large part in what peoples diet habits are this can be seen in the magazines and television from the area to show what they culture is  expecting people to look like and what they are expected to eat. Women have been the main ones with eating disorders but men with them are on the rise this is due to the unrealistic thoughts on them as well. Men are more prone to work out more than what is really necessary that way they get lower body fat. Many men think the lower their body fat the better they are this can cause many other mental issues that were not originally perceived as a female problem. With the current changes in culture the rise in men having eating disorders will keep rising. Bulimia occurs with or without anorexia symptoms. Individuals with bulimia tend to binge eat then self induce vomiting. However, binge eating is sometimes not a component of bulimia. Individuals may eat normal a mounts, and then excuse themselves to the bathroom. Another common trait is the use of laxatives, diuretics, and enemas in thoughts that it will excrete those calories. Bulimics are not necessarily underweight. Some are even over weight if not at a normal weight, and they almost always have a swollen appearance to their stomachs. Compulsive overeating is a disorder in which individuals overeat, often using food as an addictive substance. As others may turn to alcohol, drugs, or gambling to alleviate stress, compulsive overeaters turn to food. Eating disorders can plague women, and men of any age. With treatment people can overcome eating disorders and regain a normal lifestyle. They of course will always struggle with their initial issues related to food, however the treatments can teach them and give them the strength to overcome the impulses.
